Diocese of Australia and New Zealand: His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch accompanied by Church Prelates from various Diocese lay the Foundation Stone for the Ss. Peter and Paul Parish Church Premises

On Sunday the 14th December 2008, His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Catholicos Patriarch, accompanied by Church Prelates from Various Diocese, laid the Foundation Stone for the Ss. Peter and Paul Parish Church premises. This historical event was conducted on the land located at Kosovich Place in Cecil Park (Western Suburbs of Sydney, approx. 10 minutes drive from St. Hurmizd Cathedral). The event was attended by almost 1000 people on a windy yet glorious day.

Upon arrival at the land, His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV and the Prelates were greeted by the Deacons and Choir group with the prayer of welcoming of the Fathers "Slootakh Awon".

Deacon Emmanuel Yousip hosted the afternoon, with speeches by His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia and Reverend Genard Lazar, Parish Priest. His Holiness began the liturgical prayer service and upon conclusion  spoke to the audience, expressing the significnce of evangelisation in various languages in order to draw souls to Christ and Salvation as did our early Church Fathers.

The official laying of the stone was carried out by His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV, Metropolitans Mar Narsai de Baz, Mar Aprem Mooken, Mar Gewargis Sliwa, and Mar Meelis Zaia, Bishop Mar Awa Royel and Parish Priests. A steel cylinder containing historical information written in the Aramaic language was blessed and placed within the stone and cemented by the Prelates.

Afterwards there were celebrations with Assyrian dancing as members of the community expressed their joy at what was a truly memorable experience.

The Ss. Peter and Paul Parish is a special part of the Assyrian Church of the East and its community in Sydney Australia. This parish, lead by Reverend Genard Lazar is known to have changed many people's lives since its establishment and brought them closer to Christ.
