Diocese of Australia and New Zealand: His Grace Bishop Mar Meelis Zaia consecrated to the rank of Metropolitan

On Sunday 7th December 2008, 8:00 am at St. Hurmizd’s Cathedral of the Assyrian Church of the East Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, His Holiness Mar Dinkha IV Catholicos-Patriarch of the Holy Apostolic Catholic Assyrian Church of the East, accompanied by Their Beatitudes Mar Narsai De Baz, Metropolitan of Lebanon, Syria and Europe and Mar Aprim Mooken, Metropolitan of India, and His Grace, Mar Aba Royel, Bishop of California, consecrated His Grace Mar Meelis Zaia, Bishop of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand, to the rank of Metropolitan for the same Diocese.
Nine parish priests and over fifty deacons participated in the Mystery (Sacrament) of the Laying on Hands, among which was Archdeacon Yonan Youel from London.
Crowds flocked the Cathedral to great His Holiness and Church Prelates, and to be a part of yet another great event in the history of the Assyrian Church in Australia and New Zealand.
Guests from overseas were amongst the faithful who welcomed our beloved Holy Fathers with a loud and extended applause.
We take this opportunity to congratulate His Beatitude Mar Meelis Zaia, Metropolitan of the Archdiocese of Australia and New Zealand, whose well-deserved recognition of his leadership was made evident by His Holiness and the Holy Synod in the elevation of his rank within our Holy Church. We pray that the Lord will continuously strengthen and guide him to serve His Master’s, our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
