URGENT APPEAL: ASSYRIAN AND OTHER CHRISTIAN REFUGEES FROM MOSUL
2008-10-15
Over the past few weeks, Assyrians and other Christians have been
mercilessly targeted in the city of Mosul. Many have been killed and injured,
while many thousands have been forced to flee their homes as refugees.
In an effort to help our people in Mosul, the Assyrian Church of the East
Relief Organisation (ACERO) is donating an initial $10,000 for humanitarian aid
such as food, medical supplies and shelter, and is in consultation to
donate more.
Already, some of those that have become refugees are seeking sanctuary in
Assyrian churches and monasteries. Reverend Emanuel Beito Yokhana, project
director of ACERO, is on the ground in the Nineveh area and is helping
to co-ordinate relief.
We, in ACERO, are aware that more help is needed. This charity would not be
able to continue providing this help to Assyrians in Iraq, Syria or
Jordan without the support of members of the Assyrian Church of
the East. Therefore, we are appealing to you, urgently, our fellow
Assyrians, to continue making donations to ACERO. At this time, with, once
more, our people in harm's way, these donations are even more vital.
For those who wish to make a donation, please make this through your local
parishes marked to ACERO.
We pray to our Saviour, Jesus Christ, to protect our people in this difficult
time.
Yours sincerely
HG Mar Meelis Zaia
Chairman
ACERO
